It has been a while! 5 months to be exact?! Not that I blog suuuper often anyway, but I decided to really slow down and relax for the summer after the wedding and it kind of turned into a bit longer than that. Oops! Anyway, I’m feeling refreshed and excited to share a few fall outfits coming up, our wedding photos and our thanksgiving table set-up, all coming soon!

This first look is one of my faves! It’s simple and easy to throw together for any type of outing you are into this Fall season, maybe just swap out the heels ;) I actually bought this jacket a while back, but I have found similar ones at HnM every year and the one I linked is super cute. The shoes are some cute beige suede ones I picked up for my bachelorette this past Spring. I will say that suede can be hard to keep clean and I totally destroyed these that night, and I mean DESTROYED them haha! But, the wipes from Aldo did just the trick to get them back in shape. I love love LOVE this sweater I’m wearing from Joe Fresh, the details on it are too cute and its super soft and comfy. I kept with the neutral theme with my Kate Spade bag that I’ve been using since we went to Palm Springs last November! Lastly I threw on a pair of jeans and your done! Happy weekending lovelies xo

With our wedding just over a month away I’m so excited to be sharing such gorgeous inspiration! When Chloe contacts you with an idea for a styled shoot, you immediately say yes! I was so lucky to collaborate with her again, along with so many amazing local vendors. It really is such a wonderful thing to hang out with other creatives and make something beautiful! This spot is where Chloe had wanted to shoot for her styled shoot last year but were unable to because of weather. I could immediately see why, it is such a dreamy background! We worked rain or shine to make this shoot happen and it was well worth it. We were losing light by the end, but both SO determined to get every shot! Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to this shoot, it was a great team and I had the best time spending the day with these girls! I hope to collaborate again very soon! Please visit their sites for even more wedding day inspiration!

We are getting so close to the wedding day and have so much to do, but I am determined to have perfect skin! We have had such dry weather and I’ve been struggling with my skin, which is dry-combination. I have wanted to share my new skincare routine with you for a while now since there are so many great products that I have been using and love! I hope some of these work great for you too!

I use the cleanser, face and eye cream by Philosophy for every day use and find they work great for my skin. They seem mild enough for any skin type. When I’m on the go or too tired for the whole routine at night, I use these makeup wipes from MAC Cosmetics. They are ahhhmazing and moisturizing, which I haven’t found in other wipes, plus they smell great! I use two face masks from Origins right now, one is a rose clay retexturizing mask to even out skin and one is an intensive moisturizing overnight mask that I wear to bed almost every night. I promise you will want to lather this on! It smells like apricots and gives your skin a beautiful glow when you wake up. I have also been using the Boscia exfoliating peel gel which has been heaven sent for getting rid of any dry patches! I had wanted to try the Mario Badescu drying lotion (you can find it at Anthropologie or Urban Outiftters) for the longest time and I’m so happy I finally did, it really is amazing at spot treating blemishes. Lastly, I use two beauty mists, love + roses is seriously lovely and great for hydrating and calming skin (I found mine at Anthropologie), and I find that the beauty elixir from Caudalie tones and refreshes my skin. I usually switch between the two throughout the day depending on how my skin feels.

Follow this step-by-step tutorial on designing the perfect custom gift!

STEP 1: DETERMINE A THEME
The first and most important part about crafting a gift is really understanding the client. In this case, ask yourself the following questions: “What are mom’s favourite things, hobbies, colors? “Is her personality type more relaxing, energetic, fit, earthy?” By understanding the client inside and out, you can really carry out the theme starting from the type of gifts straight through to what ribbon to use.

STEP 2: TAKE YOUR TIME
One of the best parts about Ribbons gifts is that each item is hand selected from local business With all gifts, it’s very easy to get a little carried away (ask Maria!), so it’s important to take your time and do your research.

STEP 3: FINISHING TOUCHES ARE ESSENTIAL
Once the items are selected the most exciting part comes – the design. Finishing touches are an essential part of the gift. Things like ribbons, tissue paper, floral accents, all help define the theme of the gift.

STEP 4: TAKE IN THE MOMENT
Just like with events, gifts provoke some sort of emotion. There is something incredibly special about creating a gift that reflects our clients. One of the best parts are designing gifts is the reactions we receive from our clients.

Founder & Design Expert, Maria Corcione, launched Ribbons Custom Gifts & Events in Spring 2014. Initially starting off as a hobby, Ribbons quickly developed into a full service gift and event business, serving an assortment of clients including brides and corporate clients.

I remember the first gift basket I ever made. It was for a friends engagement party. I knew I wanted to get her and her fiancé something that was personable and unique. From there, my love for designing gifts quickly became more than a hobby and that’s when I launched Ribbons Custom Gifts & Events.

Whether it’s her love for events or her communications background, Maria always had the vision of starting her own event business and with events comes gifts – the perfect combination. It really is a dream come true. I always knew I wanted to start an event business and through my education and experiences, I knew I needed a unique and relatable niche. The custom gifts was the perfect introduction to the events industry.

With the wedding season in full effect, Ribbons has found a way to tie in gifts with wedding planning, with the “Welcome to Ribbons” gifts. These custom gifts are designed for all brides and grooms who book a custom wedding package. See website for more details.

The “Welcome to Ribbons” gifts are the perfect way to welcome our brides and grooms to Ribbons! Each gift is custom designed to reflect the bride and grooms interests and help prepare them for planning their special day. It’s also a great way to tie in other gifts, including: bridesmaid, groomsmen, mother-of-the-bride, guest gifts, welcome gifts etc.

Spring has sprung and I’m not complaining about it one bit! Every season I freshen up my decor, my closet and my makeup bag with some new beauty products! I am loving everything about having a pretty pink glow to my eyes, cheeks and lips for Spring and am totally in love with all of these picks! My skin has been going through a dull dry spell and it is not so lovely ;) This resurfacing mask and mist were my first two products to combat this. I plan on sharing a full post on all of the new skin care products I have invested in in the past few months, there are some serious gems I’ve found so stay tuned! I got this amazing and fresh scent for my birthday and I’m in love!!! Jo Malone definitely knows the way to a girls heart, I have my eye on their candles too! And finally, add in some fun pink nails and toes and your ready for blossoms and cute Spring dresses. Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine!

I have been really into pastels for winter lately, while I’m patiently waiting for Spring to arrive! I love pairing all of my comfiest layers together, this outfit was perfect for running wedding errands last weekend. This chambray top has been a staple in my wardrobe, it is so comfortable and you can wear it with so many outfits! It was a rainy day so I added a scarf and this cute Pom Pom Toque from Knitatude to keep warm! Plus this nude bucket bag and my favourite embellished pink suede flats, which are sadly out of stock, so I linked similar ones I found. I will be celebrating my 27th birthday this Sunday, I’m so blessed to have so many amazing things happening this year so 27 is looking pretty good so far! I hope everyone has a beautiful weekend!

bridal dress shopping

wedding dress shopping pearl and dot bridal boutique yyc calgaryedding dress shopping pearl and dot bridal boutique yyc calgarywedding dress shopping pearl and dot bridal boutique yyc calgaryedding dress shopping pearl and dot bridal boutique yyc calgaryI shared my tips for planning the perfect engagement photo shoot a while back and plan on sharing more wedding planning tips once everything is in place! I’m almost done planning and it is the best feeling in the world!!! I feel like one of the biggest and most exciting parts of getting married is saying yes to the dress! I have to admit that I wasn’t exactly excited. I felt overwhelmed in the anticipation of not finding the perfect Pinterest worthy dress of my dreams! I think it really held me back from getting too excited about the process, especially since I’m so indecisive! I managed to find my perfect dress and want to share what I learned from the experience with you!

BOOKING APPOINTMENTS: I tried to coordinate with everyone’s schedules when booking appointments, you may want to book ahead of time to make sure everyone will be free. Each appointment is usually an hour to hour and a half + travel time in between appointments. I brought along my bridal party of four, mom and Tyler’s mom. I wanted everyone to be included, but if you have a larger party, I would recommend keeping the group small as it can get overwhelming! If you have a larger group, maybe try going with the girls one day and your mom or mom-in-law or family members separately. Keep in mind some places only allow you a certain amount of people as well. I would also suggest to only make a couple of appointments in one day. We went to three and by the third one I was totally overwhelmed. I never wanted to try on a wedding dress again! Also make sure you give yourself enough time, I cut it pretty close going in November/December for a mid July wedding. Some places can take up to 8 or 9 months to order your dress + 3 alteration appointments. If you think you might be indecisive, maybe give yourself a few extra months so you have time to make a decision!

WEAR THE RIGHT UNDER GARMENTS: Wearing a convertible or strapless bra will make it easier to envision how you will look on your big day. Also make sure to wear seamless under garments or shape wear if you’re looking to try on more fitted styles. It definitely takes away from the experience if you can’t imagine what it would look like if you had! Some boutiques also suggested bringing heels to try on with the dresses. They don’t have to be the ones you will wear on the day of either, just a similar height that you have in mind. I found it hard to pick a shoe since I didn’t know what style of dress I would end up with. Some places may also have some that you can try on or a stool to stand on so you can see the how the dress will sit when its tailored to your height.

BE OPEN MINDED: Like most girls I had several dresses that I had fallen in love with pinned to my wedding board on Pinterest! I was so worried I wouldn’t find the exact dress I was looking for and to be honest, I didn’t. I found dresses with elements of the dresses I loved, but none were exactly what I had in mind. The ones that were close made me feel old and matronly. I was actually surprised I ended up loving a dress that was a different silhouette than I imagined myself in. I couldn’t stop thinking about this dress, it had just enough sparkle, but it was tasteful and the perfect amount of applique lace in all of the right places. It also had some elements I never would have dreamed of, but as soon as I tried on any other dress, I couldn’t imagine not having them! I would say that I definitely had that “moment” when I knew it was the one, you just feel like a bride! Despite my strong feelings, I couldn’t say it was the one because I was set on looking a certain way. Once I completely let go of this, I got really excited about the gorgeous and romantic dress I had fallen in love with!

MAKE IT FUN: I have to admit I feel like I dropped the ball here! There are so many ways to make this experience a little less stressful and would definitely recommend doing something to make it fun! Some boutiques offer champagne or treats. I also think having signs for your group would be a cute idea! I feel like some people may be afraid of saying too much and hurting your feelings so this would be a great way to help get their opinions involved, after all that’s why they are there to help you find the one!

I hope this helped anyone who is in the midst of planning! Happy dress shopping!

I’m so excited to share these beautiful images that Chloe captured of us for our holiday card this year! She is so sweet and talented, I was so happy she was able to fit in a last minute session for us with our pups! We drove up to Stettler, Alberta, to their gorgeous winter wonderland and it was well worth it! This is a tradition I have wanted to start with our family for a while now and I’m so happy we made it happen this year.

I made a DIY wreath to add some lovely touches to our photos which I have wanted to do ever since Lauren Conrad shared the idea on her blog, you can find it here. I cheated and bought a pre-made wreath and just added some flowers and greenery, securing them with floral wire.

Thank you so much to Chloe for making this happen and yet again giving us these beautiful memories! I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas Eve!

holiday fireplace renovation

20151219_214837000_iOSWe finally tackled a project I have dreamt of doing since we moved in almost four years ago now! We are still working on the staircase and pantry door that match the dark wood from the before photo below, but I wanted the mantel done for the holidays at the very least. I’m in love with how it turned out! I can’t believe this is the same fireplace, the white really brightens up the room! I ended up replacing the mirror as well, I felt like it needed a bit of contrast. I really lucked out with this gorgeous hand carved one from Homesense.

fireplace renovation before and after
This was a super easy and inexpensive DIY that made a huge impact on the space so I wanted to share what we used! See below for all tools and supplies we used for the project and directions. FYI – We started off with just sand paper but later upgraded to a Black & Decker Mouse Detail Sander + used primer so we need less coats of paint on the other areas. You will still need sand paper for smaller edges though.

fireplace renovation before and after
First step is to lay out your drop cloth to protect any surrounding furniture and flooring, then tape off the walls and carpet lining the fireplace and tile. Next step is to rough up the surface of the wood by giving it a light sanding, once this is done, wipe the area down to remove any dust. Once dry you can now apply your primer, this dries quickly and then your ready to paint! We did 4 coats of paint, letting it dry in between, this paint says it only needs 4-6 hours between coats. The paint brushes worked great for all the edges and the roller for the larger surface areas, it had a much smoother finish. The paint did not stick to the silicone surrounding our fireplace, but you can use white silicone to cover the inside edges. Once the paint has dried, remove tape and your done!
