friday favourites: drugstore finds

If your like me, then you love ALL beauty products, a makeup junkie if you will. Growing up my mom, aunt and I would spend hours at the local Shoppers Drug Mart looking for new products to try. I decided since I already shared one half of my beauty routine it was only fair to share the other!

Here are a few of my must-have finds (excluding Neutrogena, which I love but I have only found in the States – if you get the chance take a look at their cosmetics, they are amazing!). Some of these are actually great alternatives to more expensive brand name products that I’ve tried so it really goes to show that its not all about the price tag. For example, mascara is something that I have tried a lot and I repeat A LOT of, but for the amount I use on a daily basis I can’t justify spending $50 dollars on it, especially when I can get the same result for $7! Take a peek at my suggestions below.

1. Revlon Eyelash Curler
people always think my eyelashes are fake, the answer? everyone, I repeat everyone should have an eyelash curler in their bag! your eyes will never look better and this curler never breaks my lashes
2. Physician’s Formula Pressed Bronzer
great for contouring and has little to no shimmer which can sometimes make your skin look muddy
3. Tweezerman Tweezers
the best tweezers out there and it doesn’t hurt that they come in pink either!
4. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara, L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara
I usually always have two mascaras on the go! one as a base for length and one to build volume + great lash works well for the lower lashes (also check out Maybelline Falsies Mascara) I buy all of my mascaras in the curved brushes to add extra lift!
5. EOS Lip Balm
I can’t live without my eos lip balm! cute packaging never hurts and the balm does wonders
6. CoverGirl Cheekers Blush in Rose Silk
this has a natural looking peach-pink colour and adds a great sheen, almost like a built-in highlight!
7. CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain in Everbloom Kiss, Revlon Lipstick in Pink Cloud
this is an absolute must have in my makeup routine, adds a natural looking tint to lips and doubles as a lip liner for definition layered under lipstick or gloss + this sweet pink lipstick has just enough shimmer to give lips a plumper appearance and a pretty pink wash of colour
8. Almay Clear Complexion Foundation
I swear by this foundation, I have sensitive skin and this has been the only foundation that consistently keeps me breakout free, it contains a low percentage of salicylic acid to keep blemishes at bay
9. Revlon Photoready Skinlights Illuminator
I use this for any special occasion or when I want that extra oomph to my look! I mix it into my foundation and apply all over for a flawless look
10. Covergirl Eye Shadows
if your looking for a cheaper alternative for shadows these are great, they have good pigment and lasting ability compared to other drugstore shadows I’ve tried

friday favourites: mac cosmetics

I have a lot of people ask what products I use and always have so much fun giving them beauty advice. Considering most of the products I use in my daily routine are by MAC Cosmetics, I decided to dedicate my first ever beauty post to them! I still remember getting my first beauty counter makeover at MAC back in junior high and have been a loyal customer ever since.

Here are a few of my favourite must haves that I use regularly. I usually stick to neutrals for my daily look and always seem to gravitate towards peachy-pink, bronze and orange toned hues. This look is flattering for any occasion or anyone, plus I’ve always loved a look that can go from day to night easily and this is a perfect palette for that!

1. Prep & Prime in Lightboost
great for highlighting and adding a little boost to tired eyes
2. Pro Longwear Concealer
my all time favourite concealer! great coverage without looking cakey
3. Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
I use this to set my foundation and love the flawless finish
4. Brow Set in Show-off, Eye Brows in Spiked, Eye Kohl in Teddy
my go-to brow products since I’m lacking in the brow department & a gorgeous deep bronze liner
5. Pigment in Tan
I love the colour + the finish always brightens the eyes up
6. Eye Shadow in All That Glitters, Phloof, and Saddle
I usually wear all that glitters on the lid, phloof as a highlight and saddle in the crease
7. Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly
if paint pots are not in your life your seriously missing out, this will make your shadow last until tomorrow
8. Mineralize Blush in Dainty
I have sensitive skin so the mineralize blushes are my favourite
9. Lipstick in Peach Blossom, Plushglass in Fulfilled
my absolute favourite everyday lipstick! perfect peach-pink colour + this gloss adds a nice creamy shine
10. 239 Eye Shader Brush, 224 Tapered Blending Brush, 168 Large Angled Contour Brush, 116 Blush Brush, 187 Duo Fibre Face Brush, 182 Buffer Brush
I use 239 for the highlight and lid, 224 for the crease and blending, 168 for bronzer to contour the cheek bones and face, 116 for blush, 187 for foundation application (this brush gives a lightweight feel), and finally 182 for blending it all out

What are your favorite MAC products? Let me know if there are any I’m missing out on!
